Common Dog Poisons

A penny minted in and after l983 contains 2500 mg of zinc, which if swallowed, can kill a 50- pound dog. A pack of gum with the sweetener xylitol, or some baking products with xylitol, can do the same thing. Read your gum and baking product labels and do not allow your dog to get anywhere near swallowing xylitol. And don't forget grapes and raisins. Five raisins or grapes per pound of body weight can be toxic to dogs (kidney issue with raisins and grapes).
