For twenty three years I took emergency calls days, nights and weekends, including all the holidays. I can no longer function during my normal work days when I have been in the clinic from 2 to 5 AM with an emergency. We are fortunate in the metropolitan areas of the US nowadays to have full time emergency clinics. I still stay on call for all medical and surgical cases which I am currently involved with.
